We were organized September 30, 1976, and chartered on November 13, 1976. We started with eleven members, and have grown to over 35 (retired and working) professional / business men and women. Performing volunteer service in the community (mentoring, sponsoring youth clubs in the public schools). Around the world, there are more than 500,000 members in at least 7,500 communities and over 90 nations. Serving the Children of the world. Our clubs are Not for Profit Volunteer Service Organization. Monies raised are used in the area.
Members and guest of the club meet every Tuesday @ 7:30am until 8:30am to coordinate our club projects (one hour meeting). The address is The Salvation Army Building at 768 Morton Street NW, Wash. DC between Georgia Ave NW and Sherman Ave NW. (about 7 blocks from Howard Univerisity) The building is on the corner Sherman and Morton, entrance on Morton.
We have a twenty minutes speaker presentation about various topics while having breakfast prepared by our members.
Service Leadership Programs Melvin Sharpe Health School Builders Club sponsored by ( Kiwanis Club of Shepherd Park) The Builder's Club was organized in 1981. The officers are selected each school year. The officers are: president, secretary,and treasurer. There many activities they do in the school year.
Coolidge key Club sponsored by ( Kiwanis Club of Shepherd Park) The Key Club was organized in 2002. The officers are selected each school year. The officers are: president, secretary, and treasurer. The LEADERSHIP activities are performed during the school year. Kiwanis Key Club Conventions and Leadership training for community service at the International and District level is held annually at times which do not conflict with school sessions.
Objects and Purposes: To develop initiative and leadership. To provide experience in living and working together. To serve the school and community. To cooperate with the school principal. To prepare for useful citizenship. To accept and promoted the same ideals that Kiwanians do.
